Electron Microscopy Center at ShanghaiTech is a major research facility, newly established to promote the advancement of electron microscopy science and to support research in the School of Physical Science and Technology. The Center is scheduled to receive a state of art aberration corrected TEM and STEM (JEOL Grand ARM300F) with double correctors in early 2018.  This instrument will add to the existing lineup of 200kV and 120 kV TEMs, and Low-voltage HRSEM. In the near future, the Center is also planning further expansion in environmental TEM and in-situ characterization capabilities.
Two positions are available at the Research Associate Professor or Postdoctoral Researcher levels in the joint research group of Profs. Jianmin Zuo and Osamu Terasaki to pursue research in the broad area of quantitative high resolution electron microscopy, in-situ characterization of materials microstructure dynamics, scanning electron nanodiffraction and electron ptychography. The successful candidates are expected to develop his/her research interest in the selected topics. He or she will also have opportunity to visit University of Illinois, USA, for collaborative research. Areas of particular interests are correlative microscopy for the study of structure-property relationships using the advanced TEM/STEM as an experimental platform, and exploration of phase contrast detector and pixel detectors for imaging of light atoms and field mapping in nanostructures. Candidates with interests to develop electron beam techniques for imaging 3D nanostructure of radiation sensitive materials are also encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities
1)Conduct independent research in electron microscopy.
2)Participate in the Electron Microscopy Center research and development activities, including collaborative research.
3)Contribute to the development of related instrument(s).
4)Help with research planning and supervising students.

Qualifications:
1)Ph. D degree in Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry or related fields
2)Knowledge and working experience in transmission electron microscopy, electron diffraction, crystallography and sample preparation. Candidates with experience in advanced electron microscopy will be given special consideration.
3)Good oral and written communication skills.
4)Fluent in oral and written English.
